Pre- and Post-Concert Talks

Philip regularly introduces performances by the greatest musicians and orchestras in the world, using both his knowledge of musical history and narrative and his long experience as a performer to illuminate and enrich an audience's understanding and enjoyment of the concert. Whilst these talks usually take place before a large audience in a concert hall he has, on occasion, been invited to speak privately to small groups of people intending to attend concert, opera or ballet performances and wishing to make the most of the experience. These have been very successful and enjoyable and, where time allows, he is always delighted to consider such invitations.

Back to Musical Communicator...

"It is always deliciously satisfying to feel that one is "in the know", especially in such a wide and complex world as classical music. It can, in fact, be tempting to see such arcane knowledge as an entré to an exclusive society, whose membership enjoys a higher plane of existence. Codswallop and humgudgeon, say I! Such people forget that the audience for whom this music was written were naturally educated and informed about musical matters in a way which our present society would, no doubt, see as indulgent and economically unjustified, no matter what spiritual benefits it might confer. I feel strongly that it is important for today's lovers of music to have the chance to catch up with their predecessors so that they can better understand the composer's mind and language and, hence, hear his voice."
