  Whether in opera or recital, a singer has two dimensions in which to move - music and characterisation - and creating the right balance between these and how they are projected is an important tool in creating a successful and personal performance. The relative weights each artist will choose to give to them will be different for different occasions, repertoire, venues etc. but both must be totally under control and, therefore, must be fully mastered and available over the full spectrum of intensity.

  What Philip offers as a performance coach is vast musical experience together with a deep and powerful sense of narrative and dramatic truth. He is not a vocal technician - such people can be easily found when mechanical faults are encountered - but where there is musical, artistic and dramatic talent he will find and uncover it.
